PA State GEAR UP launches College Awareness program

Dates/Time:
October 28, 2003

Details:
Downey, Marshall, Steele, Scott, Camp Curtin, Lincoln and Melrose School 7th grade students are visiting area colleges as part of the PA State GEAR UP Project’s College Awareness program.

Campus destinations are Penn State University at Harrisburg, Harrisburg Area Community College and Lebanon Valley College during September and October.

PA State GEAR UP Coordinator Sandy Patsolic and Direct Services Coordinator Diane Hasan visit student classrooms a couple days prior to their college tour date and prepare students for the experience. Students preview the “Get the Most Out of Your College Tour” booklet designed by GEAR UP staff to guide the students through their tour. They receive instruction from the coordinators about how to use the booklet to help them remember important information while they listen to tour guides and other college representatives.

Students must complete the required information in their booklet, helping them to understand the purpose of the college visit and also what types of questions to ask to “get the most out of your college tour.”
