Law Day with Widener and Penn State University Dickinson Schools of Law

Dates/Time:
February 11, 2004

Details:
Fifty 7th grade Foose Elementary School students and faculty experienced an interactive and informative presentation by law professors, administrators and students from both law schools. The students heard a panel from both institutions discuss their personal, educational, and professional experiences related to the field of law. The panelists offered advice regarding personal choices, educational focus, and résumé-building tips for middle school students considering college. Students had several questions for the presenters during the lively session.

A presentation by members of the Black Law Students Association followed the panel discussion. Two students addressed the issues of character and fitness for law school applicants. They focused on the importance of making good choices early in life that will enable young people to prepare for postsecondary education.

The seventh graders also participated in an interactive mock courtroom trial presented by the Trial Advocacy Honor Society during which students learned more about the legal process and gained a clearer understanding of terms and methods used by attorneys conducting a criminal trial. The group enjoyed a lunch at the Side Bar Café at the conclusion of the mock trial.
